The Challenge

A cybersecurity software company was doing everything right on the content side, publishing 3-4 blog posts per week for over a year. The traffic was stuck, and they couldn’t crack page 1 for their most valuable keywords.

The problem was the authority gap of DR 38 vs. the competitors at 55-65; even with good content, it was unable to compete. They had junk backlinks; around 70%+ of their links came from directories, press releases, and irrelevant tech aggregators. Only 11 links came from sites with real authority, but none were from actual cybersecurity publications.

They had two bad experiences with previous link builders: one built irrelevant guest posts, and the other used a link farm that triggered a manual penalty from Google, requiring cleanup before moving forward.

The Strategy We Used

We designed a guest posting campaign focused only on cybersecurity, enterprise, IT, and B2B technology publications. Every placement was mapped to one of 8 priority landing pages targeting the client’s highest-revenue keywords.

  • Guest post placements on cybersecurity blogs, enterprise IT publications, and B2B SaaS review sites with DR 45–70 and verified organic traffic above 5,000 monthly visits.
  • Anchor text distribution: 40% branded, 30% partial match, 20% natural/contextual, 10% exact match, deliberately conservative to protect against the client’s prior penalty history.
  • Monthly velocity of 12–15 guest posts during months 1–4, scaling to 18–22 per month from month 5 onward as domain trust signals strengthened.
  • Content written by the Outreach Desk’s editorial team with technical review from the client’s security analysts to meet publication editorial standards.

Each target publication was reviewed against 14 quality criteria, including traffic trend stability, spam score, outbound link ratio, content freshness, and indexation health.

The Results

The inflection point arrived in month 4. The client’s primary product page moved from position 19 to position 7. By month 6, three additional product pages reached page 1. New blog content began ranking within 10–14 days of publication, down from 6–8 weeks previously.

By month 9, the client was outranking two publicly traded cybersecurity companies for mid-tail commercial terms, companies with DR scores 20+ points higher but weaker topical relevance signals.

As the domain authority strengthened, AI platforms began surfacing the client’s content. Google AI overview featured the client’s product pages for 14 cybersecurity queries. ChatGPT began citing its comparison content when users asked about the endpoint production solutions. Perplexity citations in 11 security-related queries drove an estimated 300+ monthly discovery visits from AI-assisted research. The combined AI visibility created a new discovery channel that did not exist at the start of the campaign.
